Credit repair advertisements are everywhere-on the TV, the radio, in print publications, and on the web. You may have even received ads for credit repair in your mailbox. Many of these services make unbelievable claims about credit repair. Unfortunately, most of the claims are exaggerated. Read on to learn more.

There are many legitimate credit repair services out there that can offer you valuable advice on managing money and repairing your credit history. Unfortunately, there are also many credit repair services that are nothing but scammers. These companies will try to bilk you out of your money and will do little, if anything, to repair your credit. Here are some tips to help you avoid credit repair scams.

• Don't believe anyone who says that they can fix your credit overnight. Credit repair takes a conscious effort, time, and hard work.
• Never pay a credit repair company for performing services that they have not yet performed.
• Avoid companies who do not tell you your legal rights and give you no tips on what you can do yourself for free.
• Do not let a credit repair service talk you into creating a new credit identity for yourself. That's called fraud and you may be subject to prosecution if you take their advice.
• Keep in mind that there should be little or no cost involved when it comes to credit repair. If a service wants to charge you thousands of dollars, they are looking to make money off of you that they don't deserve.
